Craft Spirits Education, Tasting Events & Festivals
In 2019, we're again sponsoring distilled spirits festivals, tasting events and educational sessions to expand appreciation of craft distilling and the rich diversity of distilled spirits, frequently focusing on products from the Rocky Mountain region.
Beginning January 16, from 6:00-7:30 pm, we will be conducting the first “Whiskey Education Series.” Hosted at Bird & Jim Restaurant on the third Wednesday of each month through April, the program will begin with a 30-40 minute presentation and Q&A, followed by guided tasting of three whiskeys. Each session will focus on one type of whiskey, beginning with Scotch. Bourbon, rye and corn whiskeys will be featured successively in the following three session. We are very grateful to Bird & Jim—in addition to hosting the program, they will provide the whiskeys and serve delicious hors d’oeuvres to participants!
January 15 we met with the Estes Valley Sunrise Rotary at 7:00 am to discuss the topic, “Why Publish a Guidebook to Colorado Distilled Spirits?”
On November 13, we met with the philanthropic Optimist Club of Boulder to present a 90-minute program surveying the breathtaking expansion of craft distilling in the U.S. and, specifically, in Colorado, which now hosts the fourth or fifth largest number of operating distilleries in the U.S. The program included lively sessions for tasting and discussing four distilled spirit products contributed by Spirit Hound Distillers in nearby Lyons, Colorado.
On October 27, we helped sponsor the Rocky Mountain Craft Spirits Festival in Estes Park—with spirits from almost 30 producers, plus live music and tasty food—where we talked about favorite spirits with many festival goers and autographed our Guidebook!
On September 29, we led the malt whiskey tasting events at the second annual Celtic Fest in Frederick, Colorado (just north of Denver off of I-25).
